The latest tributes to Weathers — who died peacefully in his sleep, per a statement from his family, according to Deadline and Variety — come about after Sylvester Stallone shared an emotional statement in memory of his Rocky costar.
“We lost a legend yesterday,” Stallone, 77, wrote on Instagram. “My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers. Rest in power and keeping punching.” The actor-director added in a video posted alongside his message that Weathers was an “intricate part of my life and success.”
Dolph Lundgren, who starred opposite Weathers in Rocky IV, wrote in a post, “I was saddened to hear the news this morning. Along with the world, I will miss Carl. He was a great actor, a terrific athlete, and a good friend. I cherish many special memories of Carl, both professionally and personally. Like Apollo Creed, he had that special charm that always brought a smile to your face. 🙏.”
Michael B. Jordan, who portrays Apollo’s son Adonis Creed in the Creed film franchise, also paid tribute to Weathers, writing on Instagram, “We lost a Legend.”
Weathers’ The Mandalorian costar Pedro Pascal simply wrote in a post, “Words fail 💔 #CarlWeathers.” The late actor portrayed Bounty Hunters Guild leader Greef Karga, who grew close to Pascal’s namesake character, in the Star Wars series.
Arnold Schwarzenegger also honored former costar Weathers as he shared a still of the pair on the set of the 1987 sci-fi action film Predator.
“Carl Weathers will always be a legend. An extraordinary athlete, a fantastic actor, and a great person,” the actor, 76, wrote in a message. “We couldn’t have made Predator without him. And we certainly wouldn’t have had such a wonderful time making it. Every minute with him – on set and off – was pure joy.”
“He was the type of friend who pushes you to be your best just to keep up with him. I’ll miss him, and my thoughts are with his family,” added Schwarzenegger.
