Sony’s latest Marvel movie, Madame Web, has arrived in theaters. Given the tradition that superhero movies typically have post-credits scenes, find out whether it’s worth staying in your seat as the credits roll.
Madame Web is the fourth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The movie stars Dakota Johnson as the title character, alongside Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. Cassie Webb (Johnson) is a paramedic with clairvoyant powers who must save three young women and their futures from Ezekiel “Zeke” Sims (Rahim).
The film premiered in theaters on February 14, 2024 — and early reviews have called Madame Web as the “worst comic book movie” to date. Forbes reported that critics called Sony’s Marvel title “hilariously bad” (Daily Beast) to “depressingly internet” (Hollywood Reporter) and having “none of the charm you expect from even the most basic superhero movie” (Variety).
Madame Web is expected to make $30 million to $35 million after its Feb. 14 release, potentially marking the lowest-ever domestic opening for a Sony Spider-Man movie. (The three movies in the Sony Spider-Man Universe made $500.9 million combined.) It’s not entirely Madame Web’s fault — the film was released during a period where recent MCU and DC movies have flopped, too — and “superhero fatigue” is likely behind it.
Johnson told The Wrap that “there were drastic changes” made to Madame Web’s script after she signed on to the project. “And I can’t even tell you what they were.” Because her character can see the future, the actress said the biggest challenge was filming multiple versions of one scene, increasing the workload for everyone.
“It added so many different camera set-ups, like triple the amount of work,” Johnson said. “And it was very complex, and there’s only like minor differences between each version of the same scene, so it was like puzzle pieces, and really paying attention to what moment we’re in, and what angle we’re in, and continuity and things like that.”

Does Madame Web Have A Post-Credits Scene?
The answer is no, Madame Web does not have a post-credits scene. The film’s director, SJ Clarkson, recently revealed why her film decided to break away from the long-standing Marvel tradition.
“It was about telling a great story. My father always used to say, ‘If you have to say something, stand up, speak up and then shut up,’” the British director told The Hollywood Reporter. “So when I got to the end credits, I felt that we’d said everything we needed to say in the film. It’s up to whatever is next to take on the button.”
Instead, the end of the film’s credits roll alongside visuals of the secret identities of Cassandra Webb, Julia Carpenter, Anya Corazon, and Mattie Franklin to 2003’s pop rock music.
Will There Be Another Madame Web movie?
As of now, there are no plans from Sony to create another Madame Web movie (and the film’s negative reviews are likely not helping its cause). The film’s director confirmed to Digital Spy that she hasn’t started working on a sequel.
“If I had clairvoyance I would tell you [what she’d want to explore in a sequel],” Clarkson said. “I’ve not long finished the film, so I’m going to put it out there in the world and see what happens.”
Although the future of Madame Web is unknown, Johnson said she would return for another run if they asked her back. “There is so much I would like to look at,” she also told the platform. “If they want me to come back, then I will.”
