We have a new UFC featherweight champion.
Alexander Volkanovski‘s time atop the 145-pound throne is over as Ilia Topuria stunned the champion Saturday night with a second-round KO to become the new titleholder in Anaheim, California. Topuria, now on a seven-fight winning streak in the UFC and a 15-0 overall record, brings the first UFC title to Spain. Topuria joins an exclusive list as just the fifth champion in the division, joining Volkanovski, Max Holloway, Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.
For Volkanovski, his reign concludes in the division he’s owned for nearly seven years, with his 11-fight winning streak at featherweight ending. Volkanovski, 35, adds another loss to a discouraging stat for older fighters — as with his loss, male fighters aged 35 and over are now 0-15 in UFC title fights at 155 pounds and under.
Brett Okamoto, Marc Raimondi and Jeff Wagenheim break down all the action from a drama-filled fight card in Anaheim.
